The Harold Washington College (HWC) Believe in Students FAST Fund was initially funded by a Believe in Students grant during the COVID-19 pandemic (March 2020).
The HWC Believe in Students FAST Fund is a not-for-profit organization funded entirely through voluntary contributions and operated by HWC faculty.
During the spring 2019 semester, the Real College Survey of HWC students revealed that in the past 30 days:
- 42% of HWC students were food insecure and
- 50% of students were housing insecure
Although the FAST Fund works in collaboration with the HWC Wellness Center, it operates independently by HWC faculty through the Cook County College Teacher’s Union Local 1600 HWC Chapter.
