Important Lobby Day, Wednesday, April 20th

fist
Dear Union Sisters and Brothers,

Important Lobby Day, this Wednesday, April 20th! We need teachers and your students to be there.

Thanks to our union leadership, President Tony Johnston and his efforts in reaching politicians, and our collective efforts, our union bill (not the CPS one) to have an elected school board is at the hearing level in Springfield. That is a huge victory!

But, we need your students, to address these politicians to vote on, and push our bill forward. We can provide transportation and hotel accommodations for our student speakers.

If you have students who may be interested, connect them to Sean Noonan, CCCTU Legislative Chair.  I can provide that information via my gmail.

We will also be protesting Rauner and having a demonstration at the capital and outside his mansion.

Join us! Fight for our students!  Fight for our futures!  We can do this together, all of us.

I have four seats available, for anyone else who wants to come the day of to lobby for our interests, but you will be traveling with my whole family.  We will leave at 6a.m.

H.W.C. Professionals May Attend the Union Banquet, May 13.

fist
Dear Union Sisters and Brothers,

To support our scholarship winners, HR has agreed to have you attend the May 13th banquet.  See the Google list for the full email.

If you attend you must:

   (1)  Notify AND get permission to attend from your supervisor.
   (2)  You must get confirmation of your schedule change.

   (3)  Make up your time the day you come to the banquet.  (I know, it wasn’t a  total win.  District sisters and brother, I am going to try to get the same deal from the Director of HR there.)

To that end, we will have the scholarships awarded from 2:00p.m. to 3:00p.m. and continue with the program after that.  There is a great probability that we will give out other awards from 3:00p.m. to 4:00p.m.  I am also inviting a special guest to attend.  More information is coming.

Finally, we will have an dessert table as well as some live music performed by our students (not a band), to ease some of the pain of not having wine or drinks.  Furthermore, we will have donation-based raffles since we can’t sell tickets, sans bottles of alcohol.

It will be the best non-alcoholic banquet ever!

More April 1st Images

I will post pictures as I get approval to post them.  We had so many union members, both from the city and suburbs, attend, it really was another beautiful solidarity action!  Let’s keep the momentum going.

Below, our student ally Victor Guzman with a member of a Japanese delegation.  They were part of the Fight for $15 group.  (We are pound of you Victor!)studentwithvictor.jpgstudentvictorguzman

Security Contract Vote

Dear Security Sisters and Brothers,

Soon, you will be receiving the ballots to approve or defeat your contract proposal.  The ballots will go to your home mail boxes; they should include the contract language.

All I know is that the bargaining team agreed to begin at a 6% raise and end at an 8% raise.  You should get retroactive pay.

Along with your security reps, Walter Walden (HW) and Wade Wonsey (District), I am working on a paper announcement, but please let your security officer sisters and brother know about the upcoming vote.

Please vote, as the amount of responses sends a signal to District, and unfortunately because of District politics, you will enter into another Contract negotiation soon.  Get organized, get ready!  Know that faculty, professionals, and part-time professionals, 1708, CLOC, and others stand with you.

You deserve way more than a pay raise.  You deserve equitable pay and more benefits.

In Solidarity,

Jesú Estrada, Ph.D.
