Elected School Board Blast

Dear Union Sisters and Brothers,

The message below is a message from Tony Johnston, C.C.C.T.U. Legislative Chair.

For those of you who were at the Union meeting last Friday, he briefly talked about the bill that is being sponsored by our Union and the Chicago Teachers Union so that we may have an elected school board at the City Colleges and Chicago Public Schools.  The *.jpg doesn’t have specifics, but they did make mention that they would need boots on the ground during that time period.

I will keep you informed.

If you are interested in participating, please let me know.  (Also, please use my new email drmariajestrada@gmail.com.)

1600 Chapter Chairs and Legislative Committee:

We have some exciting news!  The AFT will be working with us to create an organizing “blitz” around our introduction of a bill for an elected Chicago City College board.
For two weeks, October 25 to November 8, we will have an internal organizing campaign. The goal is to reach all of our members in the City Colleges (and our members who are Chicago residents who work on suburban campuses) about our legislation and get them to reach out personally to other members and/or reach out to state reps and senators to urge them to pass this legislation.
What we need you to do now is inform your members  and get as many volunteers as possible for things such as phone banking, house visits to members, distributing commitment cards and getting members to sign them.
I have attached a flyer just as a shout out for you to use.  This is a great way to get members who are not your usual activists involved in an issue that is popular among our members.
If you have any questions email me at (tonyjohnston08@gmail.com).  We’ll be in touch with more information very soon.  DO NOT COMMUNICATE THIS ISSUE VIA SCHOOL EMAIL!!!
