Meet the Candidates and Union Meeting Time Change

Dear Union Sisters and Brothers,

As many of you know, we have been in favor of having an open forum between the slates.  In fact, at one point, we were the only chapter to invite both Dave and Chuck when they were first running for president.

Now, I had been waiting for the Elections Committee to set these guidelines; however, the Elections Committee has been spending its time ensuring that the elections are fair and that the ballot process is respected.  When they last met, they did not set clear guidelines on how slates were to conduct themselves at chapter meetings, and if we wait any longer, everyone will have voted.  One rule that was clear was that if one slate was invited on campus by the chapter chair, both needed to be invited.  Unfortunately, at both the suburban and city campuses, this rule has not been respected.  In fact, even on our campus EDU decided to have a meeting without inviting RDC, a meeting I only found out about when I was changing the meeting time, so candidates could come this Thursday.  The other interesting bit of news is that slates won’t be charged rental fee for conducting this Union business, which came as a total surprise to me.  I hope both slates get the same treatment.

Be that as it may, we will have the candidates from both slates attend our Union meeting on Thursday, February 27 from 1p.m. to 2p.m.  E.D.U. will come at 1p.m. and R.D.C. will come at 1:30p.m. That is an hour earlier than our regularly scheduled meeting.  Sorry for the inconvenience this may cause.

Both slates will have 15 minutes to speak and have equal time for question and answers.  Afterward, Union business will continue.

Also, we will have pizza and hot wings to welcome the new members.  I hope to see many of you there!

By when must the A.A.A. receive your ballot?
March 13, 2014, 4p.m.

Does the ballot include directions?
Yes.  You can vote straight ticket or for individual candidates, but NOT both.

When will the ballots be counted?
March 14, 2014

Who will count the ballots?
The American Arbitration Association at the C.C.C.T.U. office. Will there be a number to call in case I have questions or have not received my ballot?
Yes. 1-800-273-0726.  A A.A. representative will answer the phone between 8a.m. and 4p.m. Central Time.

Will the chapter election be conducted by mail ballot?
No.  This election will happen on campus.  March 10 to March 13.  All aspects of this election will be handled by Franklin Inojosa, our H.W.C./District Elections Committee Chair.

Having the A.A.A. conduct a mail ballot and conduct all aspects of the election will guarantee the most democratic and fair election.  The mail in ballot will also guarantee a longer window for the election to happen.

Please Note:  You must mail in the ballots yourselves!  Do not give your ballot to someone else, as it is your responsibility to fill out and send in your ballot.  I someone is asking you to give him or her your ballot, you should be highly concerned and possibly contact the A.A.A.
